The number of abortions in the Faroes reached an all-time low last year

Nineteen abortions were performed in 2017, according to Statistics Faroe Islands.
There has been a steady decrease in the number of abortions in recent years.
Over the past 20 years, the number has gone down from just over 40 to 19 last year.
The abortion rate in the Faroes is 29 per 1,000 live births, which is by far the lowest frequency in Europe.
The EU average is 200 abortions per 1,000 live births.
