Christmas holiday crimes and misdemeanours

While most people have been enjoying the Christmas peace, the police have been kept busy with various types of misconduct.
Yesterday at noon, police received a report of a noisy ship in Runavík. It was immediately decided to move the ship to a less busy port, in Ánirnar, Borðoy. However, shortly after the ship arrived, similar complaints came from the locals there.
The police could not do much more, as this is a matter between the local council and the shipping industry.
Another breach of the Christmas peace occurred on Christmas day, when a driver was caught driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driver’s licence.
That same evening, two men ended up in a fight in Tórshavn. One of the men drew a knife, which made contact with the other man’s throat. The incident did not result in serious injury, according to the police. The perpetrator has been detained for trial.
In Vágar, police investigations are underway after a home-made smoke bomb was thrown under a car.
Other than that, the holiday season has been peaceful across the islands, according to the police.
