Busy crossing to be widened
Work has begun on easing traffic congestion at the Hvítanesvegur-Eystari Ringvegur crossing in Tórshavn.
Although traffic lights were installed at the busy junction last year, rush-hour traffic jams remain a frequent nuisance for drivers.
The Eystari Ringvegur stretch from the traffic lights to the roundabout near the Magn petrol station (pictured) is particularly plagued by traffic queues.
New lane
The City Council has now signed a deal with building firm Konsax to widen both sides of the junction.
From mid-July, cars travelling out of the city on Hvítanesvegur will have their own separate lane, according to the plan.
This will allow drivers to turn right while incoming cars from from Hvítanesvegur have green lights.
