The Ministry of Trade has revised the proposal for the so-called water scooter regulations.

Since last summer’s initial proposal, the ministry has received numerous comments and has now adjusted the details.

The consultation deadline for the new proposal is 3 May.

Licence and age limit

The revised proposal seeks to introduce a licence requirement along with an age limit of 16 for operating motor-driven pleasure craft with a hull length of less than four metres.

According to the new proposal, the driver’s licence requirement will come into force on 1 January 2021.

Driving a water scooter in dark or foggy conditions will be made illegal, except for rescue or drill operations. No provisions on speed and distance from land are mentioned in the revised proposal.
