Hebrides seeking inspiration from Suðuroy

A team of ministers and civil servants from the Hebrides have been on a visit to Vágur, Suðuroy.
According to Vágur Town Council, the purpose of the trip was to seek inspiration for developing the local tourism and economy in the Scottish island community.
There are many similarities between Suðuroy and the Hebrides, including a shrinking population and young people moving away without returning. Both communities are working actively on enticing the youth to move back to their hometowns.
On its visit, the Scottish delegation was presented with Vágur’s plans for developing local tourism and other development plans. They were shown around various cultural venues in the town, including the new football academy, the Marghøllin multisports hall and the swimming pool, which was recently given international recognition.
