Prime Minister to meet with President Trump

On 2-3 September, President Donald Trump and his wife Melania will be visiting Denmark.
This visit will include talks with the Danish, Faroese and the Greenlandic Prime Ministers, according to a letter from the Danish government.
The main theme of the meeting will be the contended issue of the Arctic region, which the US, Russia and China are keeping a close eye on as the prospect of a new sea route is emerging with the melting of the ice.
Faroese Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen is also planning to discuss trade relations between the Faroes and the United States at the meeting.
Two days after general election
It is slightly inconvenient that the meeting takes place only two days after the Faroese general election.
“This is such an important meeting that it would be unwise for a Faroese Prime Minister not to attend it,” says Johannesen.
“And regardless of the election outcome, I will continue as Prime Minister until a new coalition is formed.”
He is expecting to receive further details about the meeting in Denmark later this month.
