Selling cigarettes in an online auction is in breach of the law on tobacco, according court ruling

07.08.2019 - 20:11
A man has been fined DKK 1,000 for selling 20 packs of cigarettes on the ‘Rótikassin’ auction on Facebook for DKK 500 last summer.
The man pleaded innocent to the charge of breaching the tobacco law, but the court ruled that he acted rashly in trying to sell the cigarettes without checking the legality of doing so.
Unlicensed sales of tobacco are usually punished with fines of between DKK 5,000 and 20,000. However, with mitigating factors such as the relatively small number of cigarettes and no previous convictions, the court settled on a DKK 1,000 fine.
