Court warns against phone fraudsters

The Court of the Faroe Island has issued a warning against scammers who call people regarding the estate of a recently deceased relative.
According to the court’s website, scammers in Denmark have in recent weeks been calling Danish citizens who have recently lost a family member, asking for personal data such as log-in information and civic registration numbers in connection with the processing of the estate of the deceased person.
This is in direct breach of court procedures in the Danish kingdom, according to which any requests for such personal data are illegal, unless they are mentioned in the documents relating to the case in question.
No such fraud cases have yet been registered in the Faroes, but the Faroese court is issuing the warning in response to the recent cases in Denmark, and because the Faroes are part of the Danish judicial system.
