22 kilos of ad flyers per household last year

Klaksvík-based Ingun Vágsheyg Niclasen decided to keep all ad flyers delivered in the post in 2019.
At the end of the year, the pile of paper stood half a metre tall, weighing 22 kilos.
According to national postal service Posta, advertising flyers are sent to 17,500 households in the country.

This means that Faroese households last year received 385 tonnes of advertising flyers, with a total stack height of 8.75 kilometres
FNU, the Faroese Nature and Environment Conservation Association, has been calling for a system in which households who wish to receive advertising material in the post specifically state this wish to Posta, as opposed to the current one where those who do not want ads in the post need to state this wish.
