Varðin Pelagic planning surimi production

Tvøroyri fish factory Varðin Pelagic was last year handed 1,500 tonnes of blue whiting as a test quota for a three-step project.
The first step involved improving the quality of the fish on board the ships. The second step sought to improve filleting facilities at the factory by customising the machines for blue whiting processing.
The third step, which is still running, consists of a trial project with surimi production.
Successful trials
According to Bogi Jacobsen, CEO of Varðin Pelagic, the surimi trials have gone well, and there appears to be a market for their new product.
He expects that the factory will begin its proper production of surimi towards the end of the year.
