Tórshavn’s Skúlin á Fløtum school finally opens

For the past few years, teaching at the Skúlin á Fløtum school has been taking place in six rented units spread around Tórshavn while the new school building has been under construction.
But today, exactly five years after two of Tórshavn’s largest schools, Venjingarskúlin and Tórshavnar Kommunuskúli, merged into Skúlin á Fløtum, the new building is ready.
To mark the occasion, pupils from the different Skúlin á Fløtum units across the city this morning marched from their respective school units to the new building located at Hans Andriasargøta to see their new school ahead of tomorrow’s official opening ceremony.

“It feels fantastic to finally take the new building into use, and it was definitely worth the wait” says principal Regin Marnersson.
“Having had so many separate units across the city has presented the school management with a few administrative and pedagogical challenges, which I’m sure will be solved now that we can finally get all our activities under the same roof.”
The new school will house some 850 pupils and 150 staff members.
