Young handballers are off to EURO 2022

After a string of impressive wins, the Faroese Under-19s men’s national handball team is now through to the EURO 2022 playoffs.
The Faroese side saw off Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia on its way to the nail-biting final where it held up Belarus by a single goal.

The win means that the Faroes qualify for next summer’s EURO 2022 playoffs for the Under-20 and the Under-18 age groups.
“Never before have I worked with such mentally strong athletes. There really isn’t much that can hold these boys back,” says Faroese coach Julian Johansen, adding that it is up to the spectators to determine how much of a milestone this is for Faroese handball.

“All I can say is that it’s fun to be part of Faroese handball these days.”
The entire team deserves great credit, but Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu, scoring no less than 13 of the team’s 31 goals in the final, yet again proved that he is one of the world’s top players in this age group.
