The health minister today issued a plea to all unvaccinated people urging them to get the vaccine.

“Far too many children and youths either refuse to get the jab or believe that they do not need it. But they do. The vaccine not only protects you but also others around you, and that way you do your bit to protect the society in which you live,” he wrote in his statement.

“We all know that a high infection rate can put great pressure on our health system. So, please, if you have not yet been vaccinated, do it now.”

As of yesterday, just over 84 percent of the Faroese population aged 12 or above were fully vaccinated. The percentage for the total population was just over 70 percent.

Most unvaccinated people belong to the younger age groups. About 39 percent in the 12-14 age group have received both shots, 79 percent in the 16-19 age group and 81 percent in the 25-29 age group.

Cautiously optimistic

About 70 new Covid cases were registered yesterday. The final figure is not out yet.

Most of yesterday’s positive tests are registered in Klaksvík, although the virus has spread across the country, says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.

Despite the recent spike in new cases, Møller says he is cautiously optimistic that it will be possible to reduce further spread of the virus.
