Infection rates have hit the roof since Omicron arrived in the country a month ago.

This has led some politicians, in government and in the opposition, to query the usefulness of the corona pass as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“I think we should start considering whether this still makes sense,” health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen, of Sambandsflokkurin, said on Saturday.

Opposition MP Bjarni Kárason Petersen, of Framsókn, has called for a thorough review of the Covid restrictions.

“The corona pass has clearly not served its intended purpose, and the Covid restrictions no longer make a lot of sense,” he said yesterday.

And Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen continues to have doubts about the usefulness of the corona pass.

“I never wanted to introduce the corona pass. But the people wanted it, and eventually we gave in to the will of the public,” he said on 29 December.
