Sarah’s first day of school

Thursday was the first day of school for some 730 children across the country.
Most of these were born and raised in the Faroes, but 27 were born outside the Danish kingdom. One of these 27 is six-year-old Sarah Langgaard.
“I’m excited to start school”, says Sarah as she shows us her all-pink school bag and the shiny leather shoes she bought the day before.
She spent the first six months of her life in Leirvík after which she moved with her parents to Cambodia.

Just over a year ago, the family returned to the Faroes, and now Sarah is a pupil at Leirvíkar Skúli.
“We moved back to the Faroes because we think this is a safer environment for her,” says mother Chan Thon Dam Langgaard.
“The schools here are good, and overall we decided that the Faroes was the best place for her, and of course for us all as a family.”
