The shipping company that owns pelagic trawler Næraberg is due in court shortly in connection with suspected fish dumping dating back to the summer of 2018.

And now, video footage recorded last week by a crew member shows the crew doing exactly what they were accused of back then.

The law on marine resources contains no triviality limit in terms of fish dumping, and having reviewed the footage, officers from Vørn, the Fisheries Inspection Authority, say they have no doubts that this activity is illegal.

Crew member “fed up”

The crew member who recorded the footage says he had enough of the “irresponsible practices” on the ship.

“I’m not happy about double-crossing my workplace, but I am fed up with this environmental pollution,” the person, who wishes to remain anonymous, says.

“If we see a just a tiny spot on the fish, we throw it out. This has been taking place every day since the last Vørn inspection in the summer of 2018.”

Vørn says that the footage raises questions which the authority will be treating internally. See the video footage here.
