Huawei deal ditched due to security concerns
Føroya Tele will not be working with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei in setting up a new police communications network

Føroya Tele announced early last year that Huawei had won the tender to supply equipment for a new police communications network.

But now the Danish National Police has announced that this partnership will not be going ahead after all.

The reason is that the Chinese telecoms firm has been included on the United States’ "Entity List", which includes individuals, businesses, governments and other institutions that are subject to licence requirements for the export, re-export and transfer of certain items to the country.

Huawei was added to the list after the US Commerce Department concluded that the company is engaged in activities that are contrary to US national security or foreign policy interests.

New deal with Ericsson

A new deal has now been made with Swedish telecoms firm Ericsson.

The new police communications network is scheduled for completion this year.
