New solution to Suðuroy ferry problems

New solution to Suðuroy ferry problems
A new booking system seeks to ensure that passengers will no longer be prevented from boarding Suðuroy ferry Smyril due to large volumes of cargo

The government and public transport firm Strandafaraskip Landsins have agreed on a solution to the recent problems on the Tórshavn-Tvøroyri ferry route.

The solution comes in the wake of recent incidents in which passengers at Tvøroyri’s Drelnes port could not board Smyril due a lack of space on board caused by large volumes of cargo.

A new pricing and booking system will now seek to avoid such problems in the future.

Passengers given priority

Firms looking to send cargo with Smyril will now be required to register all their cargo on a special booking system, which will provide Strandfaraskip Landsins with a clear overview of the cargo volume for each trip.

Higher freight charges will also apply on trips with many passengers.
