Hiking enthusiasts Jákup Petur Eliassen and Ken Bærentsen yesterday completed their so-called ‘Everesting’.

By hiking 18 times up and down the 880-metre tall Slættaratindur in 24 hours and 42 minutes, they cumulatively hiked 8,946 vertical metres, which is about 100 metres more than the height of the world’s tallest mountain, mount Everest.

Measured horizontally, the hike amounted to 65.5 kilometres, which is roughly one-and-a-half Marathon.

In addition to being a physical challenge for the two cousins, the event also functioned as a fundraiser for the ‘Eydnudeildin’ handball club for children with special needs.
