Ukrainian ambassador: did your grandparents make deals with Hitler?

Mykhailo Vydoinyk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Denmark, says he is grateful to the Faroese people for taking in Ukrainian refugees.

“I met with some of the Ukrainian refugees on Thursday. They all spoke of how warmly they had been received here in the Faroes,” he said.

“They told me: ‘We feel safe here. We appreciate not hearing any air raid sirens; our children can go safely to school or kindergarten.’”

The ambassador also stressed how important it is that Ukraine’s allies stop trading with Russia.

“If Putin is deprived of this money, then he will be forced to stop the war because the local population will start making their voices heard.”

Referring to the Faroese fisheries deal with Russia, he added:

“I don’t know your history very well, but ask your grandparents: did you sign any agreements with Hitler in the 1940s? I don’t know, but I presume you did not. This is a neo-fascist regime in Russia. There is no difference.”

“Don’t be too naive about agreements with Russia. They will very quickly violate all of them if that is in their interest.”
