Population continues to grow

Net migration accounted for 576 and an excess of births accounted for 213 of the overall population increase of 789.

All districts except Sandoy had a population growth. Eysturoy saw the highest relative growth, with 2.3%.

Net migration figures have risen significantly. The number of immigrants increased for the fifth year running, and the number of people emigrating is at its lowest since 1980.

The four quarter of the 1 April 2017-1 April 2018 period saw a particularly high increase in the number of male newcomers, according to figures from Statistics Faroe Islands.
