Disagreement on confidential reporting system

Disagreement on confidential reporting system
Two ministries are locked in a dispute about the proposed reporting system ahead of Monday’s Parliamentary debate

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport disagree on the bill on a so-called confidential reporting system.

Finance minister Kristina Háfoss presented the bill on 21 August, but now the Ministry of Transport insists the bill should not be brought before Parliament, arguing that such a system is a matter of labour relations policy, which comes within the sphere of the Ministry of Transport.

In a letter to the finance ministry, the transport ministry recommends a preliminary enquiry into the necessity of a reporting system prior to any Parliamentary debate on the matter. If such an enquiry were to prove the usefulness of such a system, the transport ministry is eager to know why the system should be confined to the central administration and public institutions.

Since Denmark has implemented numerous reporting systems in social services on the municipal level, the transport ministry argues that a Faroese reporting system should be used in all of the country’s workplaces.

In addition, the transport ministry points to the tradition of allowing the industry to organise its own activities.
