Statistics Faroe Islands has expanded on its workforce figures adding details on nationality.

In these figures, foreign workers are defined as persons with a citizenship other than Danish who have a registered address in the Faroe Islands.

In July, around four percent of the total Faroese workforce fell within this category.

The highest growth in this category in recent years has consisted of EU nationals from outside the Nordic region.

In July 2014, this group made up 0.7 percent of the total workforce, while in July 2018 the figure had risen to 1.5 percent.

Over this same period, the number of people coming from outside of Europe rose from 1.0 percent to 1.6 percent.

Statistically, most of the foreign workers (14.5 percent) can be found in the field of household services such as cleaning and waste collection.

Some 12.4 percent of the foreign workforce work in the fisheries industry, and 11.7 percent are in the hotel and restaurant business.
