On 1 October this year, the Faroes had a population of 51,095, which is 824 more than a year ago.

All districts in the country except Sandoy and Suðuroy saw significant growth in the population.

Sandoy’s population grew with five people in the past year, while Suðuroy saw a reduction of 28 citizens (0.6%). These two islands have endured the same stagnant or downward trend over the past five years.

According to Statistics Faroe Islands, a key reason for the high population figure is this year’s record number of people moving to the Faroes.
