Dalur tunnel work starting soon
The project to build a tunnel to Dalur, Sandoy, is starting to take shape.

16.11.2018 - 14:39

Later this month, the Dalur tunnel project will be presented for approval by Sandoy’s local preservation committee and then by the National Trust.

Talks with Landsverk (the Road and Tunnel Authority) will also commence at the end of the month.

Landsverk is looking to hire three people for the tunnel team.

The team, which currently consists of three people, is now doing maintenance work in the Sumba tunnel. This work is expected to last until the end of the year, after which the team switches to the Leirvík tunnel until they get the green light to start drilling the Dalur tunnel.

The Dalur tunnel is estimated to cost DKK 75-80 million. It will be 2.2 kilometres long, 300 metres of new road will be added and the existing road will be altered.

The project is expected to take four years to complete.
