New orphanage planned for Hoyvík

The first proposal for building a new orphanage in Tórshavn had a budget of DKK 60 million. Then it went up to DKK 65m, and now it is estimated at DKK 85m.

A construction programme was submitted to Parliament together with a bill in September, and now the Parliamentary finance committee is awaiting a draft plan, which is the next step in the process.

According to Eyðgunn Samuelsen, the Minister of Social Affairs, the main reason for the increased costs is that the square-metre price has gone up, and that the project’s space requirements have increased.

Tórshavn City Council is selling plots in the area at a square-metre price of DKK 156.
