Waste oil treatment in jeopardy

IRF, the Intermunicipal Recycling Association, has been treating industrial waste oil for the past 30 years.

Cleaning waste oil and reselling it has been profitable all these years, but now IRF has announced that it can no longer accept waste oil, citing as one of the reasons that a major client has significantly reduced its demand for cleaned waste oil.

This means that waste oil treatment is no longer profitable, and public funding is now required for this service to continue, says CEO Poul Andrias Joensen.

“Unless we receive around DKK 2.4m per year in extra funding to cover our expenses, we risk the disastrous scenarios from many years ago when oil was floating around in the sea across the islands.”
