Parliament is currently discussing a no-confidence vote against the Minister of Culture.

The chairman of the Løgting this morning announced that a vote of no confidence will be on the agenda for today’s parliamentary hearing.

MPs Jørgen Niclasen, Bárður á Steig Nielsen, Bill Justinussen and Kári P Højgaard have submitted the no-confidence vote against culture minister Rigmor Dam.

The reason is that the Ministry of Culture recently revoked the dismissal of Liljan Weihe, the news editor at Kringvarp Føroya (KVF).

The motion reads: “With her decision, the Minister of Culture has interfered with the internal decision-making power of the KVF management.

“Section 23 of the Broadcasting Act states that administrative decisions may be appealed to the Minister of Culture. However, the comments in this section make no mention of staff relations at all.

“These comments provide no indication that the minister has the authority to ‘control’ the Kringvarp Føroya management.”
