Man sentenced for violence against GP

A 48-year-old early retirement pensioner was accused of attacking his GP on 22 December last year. The incident occurred in the GP’s consultation room in Klaksvík and continued in the hall outside.
The prosecution demanded a 40-day unconditional jail term, but the Court of the Faroe Islands today decided on a 40-day conditional jail term, on the condition that the defendant accepts the treatment he has been offered.
According to the indictment, the man wanted his doctor to prescribe him some medication, but the doctor refused.
The man denies having been as violent as the indictment states. He denies having attacked the GP in the consultation room.
The GP’s daughter, his son-in-law and their two children were present during the incident. They contacted the police, who came and arrested the man.
