Steady rise in employment

There were about 27,600 salary earners in the Faroes in May this year, which is roughly 700 more than in May last year, Statistics Faroe Islands reports.

Men continue to outnumber women in the job market. In May this year, some 14,350 men and 13,250 women were registered as being in employment.

Most salary owners, 9.835 in total, work in the public sector. The private sector employs 9,033 people, the construction and manufacturing industry 4,398 and the fishery and resource industry 4,327.
