Costs of new sibling discount system revealed

The day-care sibling discount system in Tórshavn municipality was restructured in 2016 so that parents only had to pay day-care costs for their youngest child.

This restructure has cost Tórshavn City Council DKK 28 million over the past four years.

Before this restructure, parents paid the full price for the cheapest day-care place and then 75 percent of the remaining places.

The increasing pressure on day-care institutions has led to the resignation of five day-care centre managers in the capital region in the past year.
