Faroese rower up for Danish athlete of 2019 award

Sverri Sandberg Nielsen from Miðvágur has made his mark on Danish sports.

So much so that DIF, the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark, has nominated him for the Danish Athlete of the Year award for 2019.

Earlier this year, Nielsen won a silver medal in the World Rowing Championships single sculler event held in Austria after finishing three hundredths of a second behind the winner.

This result was enough to secure qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Last year’s Danish Athlete of the Year was tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. This year’s winner will be announced on 4 January.
