The Faroe Islands will be leading the way when it comes to green energy.

This became clear after it was decided that the Danish presidency of the Nordic Council of ministers will rotate between the three nations in the Danish Kingdom.

Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland hold the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers for one calendar year at a time on a rotational basis.

Next year it is Denmark’s turn, and the Faroe Islands have been selected to take the Danish presidency in the council next year.

An equal partner

“The presidency will give us the opportunity to show that we are an equal partner in the Nordic cooperation,” says Halla Nolsøe Poulsen, who coordinates the Faroese membership in the Nordic Council of Ministers.

As part of the presidency, Faroese authorities will take charge of a major Nordic green energy project called ”Fra vision til virkelighed – fremtidige energiløsninger for ø-samfund” (From vision to reality – future energy solutions for island communities).
