Vágur reveals its new green plan
Citizens of Vágur, Suðuroy, will soon be separating biodegradable waste from all other household waste

02.02.2020 - 07:38

Vágur Town Council last week presented its new recycling plan.

As part of the plan, the first households will start separating their biodegradable waste from the rest of their domestic waste early next month.

Biodegradable waste can be used for composting or as a resource for heat, electricity and fuel by means of incineration or anaerobic digestion.

Reduction in total waste

Mayor Dennis Holm says that in two years’ time, the total amount of household waste coming from Vágur to the intermunicipal incinerators will be reduced by about a quarter.

Some 30 households will take part in the initial trials, and the plan is to include all the town’s households within the next 18 months.
