Youth parliament starts today

The presidency of the Faroese Parliament is hosting the youth parliament session for pupils in grades 8, 9 and 10 across the country.
According Jógvan á Lakjuni, the Chairman of the Løgting, this is an opportunity for the young people to discuss topics relevant to them and to give them a greater insight into the democratic processes.
The young MPs will meet at 9 this morning. At 10, Mr Lakjuni will open the parliamentary meeting, and the pupils will submit their proposals to the other members, who will then debate the proposals.
Committee work
After lunch, the youth parliament members will be informed about committee work and will formulate queries for the ministers.
The young MPs will vote on the submitted proposals tomorrow morning, after which they will meet the ministers and present their queries.
The first youth parliament took place in 2005. This is the seventh youth parliament.
