Amendments to health legislation

Since the Danish health legislation came into force in the Faroes in 2012, the Danish Parliament has approved 16 amendments to the law.
No changes have been made to the Faroese law, but now the Faroese Parliament has received an amendment bill to the legislation regarding complaints and compensation.
“It is time to update the law so that Faroese patients are given the same rights regarding complaints and compensation as Danes,” says health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen
Compensation updates
The changes proposed by the Ministry of Health include the following:
If a child dies from an injury covered by the law before the age of 18, or if the child is stillborn after 22 weeks in the womb, parents are entitled to a compensation of DKK 162,000.
Compensation received in good faith cannot be reclaimed if a verdict changes as the result of a complaints process.
