The total number of people in the Faroe Islands infected with the coronavirus is now 58.

This means that another 11 people have been added to the total figure since yesterday morning.

The Chief Medical Officer has been announcing the total number every morning for the past days. Yesterday morning, 29 new cases were announced.

CORRECTION 10:03am: Only 19 new cases were registered yesterday morning. The 29 figure included cases confirmed on Monday.

A total of 933 people have now been tested, and the latest figures show that 247 are in quarantine. This figure has, however, not been updated for a while.

Busy days for testers

Yesterday and the day before, almost 200 people were tested, and today’s number is expected to exceed 200, according to Debes Hammershaimb Christiansen, head of the test laboratory at the Food, Veterinary and Environmental Agency.

This number is expected to rise further, but Christiansen says lab staff is dealing well with the pressure.

Rapid tests provide a result within 3-4 hours and the regular ones 6-8 hours.
