Yesterday around 6pm, police received reports of a group of foreign sailors seen in a grocery shop in Fuglafjørður, Eysturoy.

When the police arrived in Fuglafjørður, the men had returned to their oil tanker, named Key Fighter, which was unloading cod-liver oil at the port of Fuglafjørður.

Locals had expressed concern about this after 33 crew members on a Russian trawler and a Lithuanian cargo ship tested Covid-19 positive last month.

According to the harbour master, the crew had not been tested for Covid-19 before disembarking the ship.

The ship’s captain and its Faroese representative had received clear instructions that the crew were not allowed to go beyond a restricted area on the harbour.

Key Fighter, which is registered in Malta, left the port of Fuglafjørður last night.
