Changes to school start in Tórshavn

The older half of pupils in Tórshavn’s large schools will not be going back to school until 24 August. All others will start school this coming Tuesday.
After consulting with teachers and school principals, culture minister Jenis av Rana has decided that this is a useful way of controlling the number of pupils starting school and thereby reducing the risk of Covid-19 infection in the big schools.
This change means that preparatory school pupils and 1-5th formers will be starting school as planned on Tuesday 18 August, while 6-10th formers (Nám X pupils) will wait one week until next Tuesday.

The schools affected by this adjustment are:
- Skúlin við Løgmannabreyt
- Hoyvíkar skúli
- Eysturskúlin
- Skúlin á Argjahamri
- Sankta Frants skúli
- Skúlin á Fløtum
”Having closely monitored the situation in other schools across the country, we believe that these adjustments are currently not required outside of Tórshavn. The main reason for this decision is the high infection rate in the capital compared with the rest of the country,” writes the Ministry of Culture in a press release.
