Man facing jail on child porn charges

A man in his early 30s is being held in custody on charges of having child pornography on his electronic devices.

Police stopped him two weeks ago when he arrived on ferry Norrøna. They found illegal drugs on the man and arrested him.

After checking his mobile phone and laptop, police found large amounts of extreme child porn.

While the suspect is in custody, police are investigating whether he has distributed this material to others, which could result in a prison term of up to six years.

The penalty for possessing this type of material is one year in jail, regardless of the crudeness of the content.

The man is also charged with two counts of having taken photos of a sleeping child.
