Faroese foreign minister condemns Russia’s invasion
Foreign minister Jenis av Rana today condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The Faroe Islands have a duty to stand with the people of Ukraine and the western world, and I condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “scoundrel who attacks innocent people”.

The Faroes have been enjoying special trade privileges with Russia for years as a result of the neutral stance the Faroes maintained on Russia following the country’s invasion of Crimea in 2014, says Hákun J. Djurhuus, the head of the Faroese Representation in Russia.
“The Faroese government has now announced its approval of the sanctions imposed against Russia, and it is not inconceivable that this may affect our trade privileges."
