More inflation relief coming soon

Leading up to the 8 December election, the current government parties promised a new round of subsidies for families affected by inflation.

The families are still waiting, and some are left wondering whether the election pledges will be fulfilled at all.

“We started preparing this new round of inflation relief immediately after the new government was formed,” says Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Social Affairs.

“It is taking a while because we are trying to determine which families need these subsidies the most.”

Initially, the plan was to use the same criteria that applied to the so-called oil subsidies which were handed out at the end of last year. But it soon became clear that these criteria had their limitations.

“Using those criteria, most of the subsidies would go to the same families who received inflation relief last year. And there were many other complications which we are trying to steer around with this new relief package.”

The minister says that a proposal for inflation relief will be submitted to Parliament “in the coming days”.

She does not know the exact amount that will be paid out in this new round of inflation relief, but she says the total will be higher than the DKK 4 million paid out in oil subsidies.
