Trade union info in English

Navigating the Faroese labour market can be tricky even for those born and raised in the Faroes.
So, it’s no wonder that many workers arriving from abroad find themselves a bit bewildered when confronted with this web of complexities.
To make life easier for these people, Føroya Arbeiðarafelag (FA – the Faroese Workers’ Union) has created an English-language website, union.fo, which aims to include all basic information relating to the Faroese labour market.

“We get the impression that many workers from abroad have a rather strong degree of scepticism around trade unions because some countries have highly corrupt trade unions,” says Elisa Vang, the FA’s communications officer.
“We want to inform these people that employees, employers and trade unions are on an equal footing here in the Faroes. We also want to show them that the union fee, which is a turn-off for many, actually gives them an extremely solid safety net.”
An English-language version of the FA’s “Verkavarpið” podcast will be ready sometime this week. Keep an eye out for it on the FA’s facebook page.
