Nes achieves city status
Nes municipality has just surpassed the 1,500 population count required to obtain city status in the Faroes
Nes now has 1,502 inhabitants

Eysturoy’s Nes municipality has seen a big population spike in recent years.
This morning, the population reached 1,502, which means Nes can call itself a city.
Nes had a population of 1,279 in January 2018, which means it has increased by 223 people, or 17.4 percent, in the past five years.
The local council is preparing a special event next month to celebrate the new city status.
