Big cleanup day coming up

Preparations are underway for the annual ‘Rudda Føroyar’ cleanup day, which will take place on 16 September.
Since the first Rudda Føroyar event in 2018, about 100 tonnes of litter and mismanaged waste have been cleaned up across the country.
Up to 1,500 people have been taking part in each event.

“Although many local councils, organisations and workplaces arrange their individual cleanup events, we are still seeing large amounts of waste piling up in our beautiful countryside,” says Sigurd Justinussen, who heads Rudda Føroyar.
”This is why it’s important continue our efforts to try and change the public attitude to littering so that, hopefully, one day events like this will no longer be necessary.”

Local coordinators have so far been appointed in Nólsoy, Kollafjørður, Hoyvík, Kirkjubø, Funningsfjørður, Tvøroyri, Miðvágur, Sandavágur, Sørvágur, Bø and Gásadalur.
Rudda Føroyar is looking for local coordinators in other towns and villages. Anyone interested is asked to send an email to ruddaforoyar@gmail.com or send a message through the Rudda Føroyar Facebook page.
Part of international campaign
Rudda Føroyar is part of the World Cleanup Day, a global social action programme aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, held annually on the third Saturday of September.
