Sandoy tunnel to open 21 December

Work on the Streymoy-Sandoy subsea tunnel is coming along so well that an opening date has now been set.

“We cannot guarantee it, but we should be able to get everything ready by 21 December,” says Teitur Samuelsen, the CEO of tunnel company Eystur- og Sandoyartunlar.

“We are finishing our electrical installations and then we will carry out an extensive safety drill.”

The Sandoy and Eysturoy tunnels are managed by the same company. The total project cost for both tunnels is estimated at DKK 2.64 billion.
