Bars and restaurants frequently use social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram to advertise special offers on alcohol.

This has now been made illegal after Parliament passed a bill to ban alcohol advertising on social media.

On Thursday, MPs voted to amend the advertising provision in the alcohol law, extending the traditional media advertising ban to also include social media.

MPs also voted in favour of allowing brewery merchandise stores to sell all their products, regardless of alcohol percentage, in connection with corporate hospitality events.
