Two women were on Monday sentenced to five years in jail for smuggling cocaine to the Faroes.

The women, aged 41 and 31, are citizens of Peru. When they arrived in the Faroes on ferry Norrøna in August, customs officers searched them and found a total of 794 grams of cocaine.

The women have been held in custody since August.

Street value of DKK 1.5m

Cocaine is usually classified as a Class A drug, i.e. a highly addictive and harmful drug that is subject to the strictest legal controls.

The street value of cocaine in the Faroes is about DKK 1,800-2,000.
