Monitor travel patterns of whales

Monitor travel patterns of whales
The public can now track the movements of whales on the National Museum website

07.09.2018 - 12:28

Four pilot whales were fitted with satellite transmitters and sent back out to sea in Wednesday’s whale hunt in Bø, Vágar.

This is done to enable scientists to monitor the movements and distribution areas of pilot whales entering Faroese waters.

The transmitters are only kept active 7am-11am to save battery life and extend the period in which researchers can monitor the whales. Daily updates will be available on the National Museum website in the first few weeks, after which there will be weekly updates.
