Faroese boys will soon be offered free HPV vaccines, according to the Ministry of Health.
Danish authorities are extending the offer of free HPV vaccines to include boys who turn 12 after 1 July 2019. This offer will also be available in the Faroes, the health ministry has announced.
Between 300 and 330 boys will be offered the free vaccine annually. This will cost DKK 320,000 if all the boys accept the offer.
The existing appropriation for free HPV vaccines only applies to girls.
The vaccine can protect against colon cancer and possibly against oral and throat cancer. It also protects against cervical cancer in girls.
